毎年12月に開催される年末最大のゲームアワード「The Game Awards 2023」のノミネート作品が発表された。「ゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」ノミネート作品は『Alan Wake II』、『Baldur’s Gate III』、『Marvel Spider-Man 2』、『バイオハザード RE:4』、『スーパーマリオブラザーズ ワンダー』、『ゼルダの伝説 ティアーズ オブ ザ キングダム』となった。
「The Game Awards」は、前身となる「Spike Video Game Awards」からおよそ20年にわたり開催され続けてきた、世界でもっとも著名なゲームアワードだ。現在では「Summer Game Fest」などでも司会を務めるジェフ・キーリー氏が開催しており、その年を代表するゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤーの選出や最新タイトルのサプライズ発表に毎年熱い注目が集まっている。
各部門のタイトルは全世界の100を超えるメディアやインフルエンサーの投票によってノミネートが得票数TOP5で選ばれ、その後に「投票審査員の投票」（90％）と「ファン投票」（10％）によって受賞作が選出される仕組みとなっている。対象となるタイトルは2022年11月18日から2023年11月17日までに公開された作品だ。

30以上の部門（カテゴリ）が存在する今年の目玉はやはり「ゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」。ノミネート作品は記事冒頭でも記載したように、『Alan Wake II』、『Baldur’s Gate III』、『Marvel Spider-Man 2』、『バイオハザード RE:4』、『スーパーマリオブラザーズ ワンダー』、『ゼルダの伝説 ティアーズ オブ ザ キングダム』となった。
