『フォートナイト』公式は日本時間5月16日、Appleが『フォートナイト』iOS版の申請を却下したことを公式Xにて報告した。理由については明らかにされていない。
これにより、『フォートナイト』の米国App StoreおよびEU向け「Epic Games Store for iOS」でのリリースは不可能となる。またAppleが許可するまで、iOS版『フォートナイト』は世界中で利用不可になるとしている。
Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.

経緯として、Epic Gamesは2020年に、AppleがApp Store内の購入に対して30%の手数料を徴収することに意義を唱え、それを回避すべく『フォートナイト』において外部の決済手段を用意。その結果、AppleがApp Storeからアプリを削除したという出来事があった。
それを受けたさまざまな裁判を経て、2025年4月に米国の裁判所が下した最新の判決では、Appleがアプリ外での決済に対する手数料の徴収を禁じることや、アプリ外決済への誘導を妨げることを禁じる旨が定められていた。

2025年4月の判決を受けて、Epic GamesのCEO・Tim Sweeney氏は、「来週、『フォートナイト』を米国のApp Storeに戻す」と公式Xを通して発言。『フォートナイト』公式Xでも、米国のApp Storeでのリリースに向けてAppleに審査を申請したことが報告されていた。
この『フォートナイト』iOS版をApp Storeに復活させる一連の手続きの中で、今回その申請がAppleによって却下された形となる。4年以上続くEpic GamesとAppleの法的対立に、今回のAppleの対応がどのような影響を及ぼすのか。両社の今後の動向に注目したい。
